Ian Gumpel

Born in the Bronx in the late 80’s and raised by parents on a long leash. He was always encouraged to pursue art and various passions as a child. Ian’s design and building interest began when he met a group of carpenters working on a project in his teens. With a glimpse into the future he focused on finding work with the best builders he could reach. This pursuit brought him to California, Missouri, NY, and Martha’s Vineyard. In his approach he often tries to bring natural products like plaster and clay walls as well as live edge logs and clear finished wood into his interiors. These elements paired with straight modern lines often inspire structured space and intentional warmth. When not building he can be found looking for waves to surf along Maine’s remote coast, mountain biking local trails or hunting for hidden stashes of snow in the western Maine mountains surrounding his home. Lately most often joined by his son.
